Direct Downloads from Studio

You can now download your published audiobook files directly from the Publish tab inside Spoken Studio.

Once one or more installments are published, the Download button will appear alongside Publish, positioned next to your cover art. This allows you to access available file formats immediately, without navigating back to the project page.

This update streamlines the final steps of production and keeps your workflow focused on creating, publishing, and distributing your work.

Improved Voice Discovery When Selecting Character Voices

The voice selection list on the Voices tab has been improved when selecting a character voice.

A new Load More button now appears at the bottom of the voice list, making it more intuitive to browse and reveal additional voices from the library during character voice selection. This reduces friction and improves discoverability as the voice library continues to grow.

Bug Fixes and Performance Improvements

This release includes a number of bug fixes and general performance optimizations designed to improve stability, responsiveness, and overall reliability across Spoken Studio.

Spoken v1.07 — Polished Workflows, Less Friction

With faster access to downloads, clearer voice discovery during character setup, and under-the-hood improvements, v1.07 continues our focus on removing friction from audiobook creation and publishing while maintaining a clean, intuitive Studio experience.

Spoken v1.06 Release Notes: The Dual/Duet (i.e. alternating POV) and Speak It for all

Spoken v1.06 delivers our most expressive and flexible narration capabilities yet. We’ve unlocked true Duet Narration, seamless Alternating POV narration, and full Speak It compatibility across every voice model, including Hume’s richly emotive, and studio-textured voices. This update gives authors unprecedented control over narrative presentation, performance, and character.

Spoken v1.06 delivers our most expressive and flexible narration capabilities yet. We’ve unlocked true Duet Narration, seamless Alternating POV narration, and full Speak It compatibility across every voice model, including Hume’s richly emotive, and studio-textured voices. This update gives authors unprecedented control over narrative presentation, performance, and character.

Duet Narration & Alternating POV Control

Romance authors and multi-voice storytellers can now build true Duet Narration and Alternating POV narration directly inside Spoken Studio.

You can now change the character associated with any passage across an entire installment/Chapter, not just one line at a time. This global-level voice reassignment works exactly like changing an individual passage (including “Add New”) but applies intelligently across the full installment.

The result:

  • Perfect for alternating narrator chapter POVs

  • Perfect for duet and dual-voice performance formats

“New feature: Change individual voices at the installment level (e.g. for dual and duet narration).”

This gives authors granular, professional-grade control over character presentation, aligning Spoken with the narration standards of the top romance publishers!

Speak It — Now Available on Every Voice (Including Hume)

Speak It has officially expanded beyond ElevenLabs voices. It is now available on all Spoken voices, including the incredibly expressive Hume voice models.

This speech-to-speech feature allows you to perform any line in your own voice, capturing your natural pacing, intention, emphasis, and emotional nuance, and instantly transform that performance into the selected character’s voice.

This unlocks:

  • Fast, precise correction of mispronunciations

  • Natural emotional shaping of complex dialogue

  • Infinitely faster editing and re-narration

  • Rich, lifelike delivery using Hume’s high-emotion voice models

Speak It across all voices is a fundamental leap in creative control, and a true breakthrough for authors striving for a human-level audiobook experience.

Streamlined Narration Options

We’ve simplified and consolidated narration modes into two clear options that cover every workflow:

Single or Dual Narration
Generates one narration passage per paragraph, allowing you to assign a narrator at the chapter level — perfect for single-voice reads or dual-narration setups where each chapter or section has its own voice.

Multi-Voice or Duet Narration
Parses spoken dialogue separately from narrative, attributing each passage to its character. This enables full multi-voice production or true duet narration, with narrator assignment managed at the chapter level.

This streamlined structure makes it easier than ever to choose the narration style that matches your story’s needs.

Narrate Chapters Before Completing Your Introduction

You can now jump straight into narrating your chapters without finishing your introduction first. This supports a more natural workflow, letting you stay in flow and narrate what you’re ready for.

Your introduction will still need to be completed before publishing, but this change ensures smoother, more flexible production while maintaining audiobook structure integrity.

Project Page Access from the Publish Button

We’ve added a new Project Page route directly from the Studio’s Publish tab.

If you’ve finished a work session but aren’t ready to publish yet — or simply want to step away, review your project, or manage it later — you can now exit cleanly to your Project Page at any point using this new button.

API Enhancement for Partner Integrations

The Project endpoint now accepts an alternate parameter:
external_project_id

If this ID has already been passed via an Easy-Peasy URL and matched to a Spoken project, the endpoint will return the correct project_id automatically. This simplifies project synchronization for API partners and reduces manual linking.

Spoken v1.06 — A New Level of Creative Power

With advanced Duet and Alternating POV narration control, universal Speak It support, and API tooling, v1.06 elevates Spoken into a new tier of professional audiobook production. This release empowers authors with the precision, emotion, and flexibility they need to produce studio-quality results, faster than ever.

Top 5 Things We Took Away from Author Nation

What happened in Vegas didn’t stay in Vegas. We took it with us – the excitement of forging partnerships and the joy of connecting with humans in a business fueled by technology. Here are a few takeaways ...

1. Authors are making 2026 the year for audiobooks, and they loved learning about multi-cast narration through Spoken. (Obviously, we’re more than a little overjoyed by this.)

2. The answer is always "Do it!" If you’re nudged to start a conversation in line at registration or sitting next to someone at a session, just do it! You never know where those conversations can lead.

3. Pricing matters, but so does getting it right. Authors were blown away by our Pay When Perfect pricing philosophy. Several familiar Spoken users stopped by to say thanks including Julia, Jessica, Eunice, Cody, Matt, Jessie and Rachel.

4. Fake it when you need to … When your co-workers peer-pressure you into performing “Bohemian Rhapsody" karaoke-style for the grand finale, just lip-sync and have some fun!

5.  We always say, "there are humans behind all this tech," and that really hit home when we had the chance to connect with some of our favorite voice actors whose voices we regularly cast for projects, including Jessica Anne Bogart, Christopher, Amelia and Hey, It's Brad, all who have voice clones on Spoken.

Congrats to Our Raffle Winner!

Huge congratulations to Theresa Goodrich, who won a full year of free subscriber status. Theresa responded with the kind of enthusiasm we love ...

“I have SO many ideas (and so many audiobooks to publish). I'm thrilled that I can do a voice clone. I've been planning to record my books, but time... always time. This means I can make it happen much faster and I can do my whole catalog!"

If you want to be a career author, this indie community has a wealth of knowledge waiting for you. Buy your ticket to Author Nation for next year. It’s worth every penny.
