Spoken v2.2.1 Release: Production Without Compromise
Precision proofing. Cleaner Speak-It recordings. Cohesive Character performances. Greater control from manuscript to finished audio.
Spoken Studio v2.2.1 brings a series of powerful advances across the production process, with a particular focus on the details that matter when you're taking an audiobook from a strong production to a finished one.
For Authors, Producers, and Publishers, this release delivers unique new tools for proofing, cleaner tools for Speak-It recording and editing, and greater consistency across character performances.
The passage that needs one more listen. The recording that needs to be cleaner. The character voice that needs to remain consistent. The manuscript that needs to move into production without another round of preparation.
v2.2.1 is about giving you better tools for those moments.
Proofing — Listen Through. Flag as You Go.
Proofing a long-form audiobook shouldn't require stopping every time you hear something that needs attention.
With the new Proofing Button, you can now flag passages directly while listening to Studio's global playback. Click the proofing flag and Spoken places a red marker on the padding bar associated with that passage, allowing you to continue listening while building a clear visual record of everything that needs another look.
Flags can also be added or cleared directly from the Passage Editor on any individual passage.
This is especially valuable for Dashboard Producers, Publishers, and teams working across multiple people, where a project may move between authors, producers, proofers, and other collaborators.
Everyone can see where attention is needed and stay aligned throughout the production.
Listen through. Mark what matters. Keep moving.
Magic Mode Editing — Character Voices, Fully Cohesive
We've made a massive improvement to one of the most important parts of the Magic Mode workflow: character voice consistency.
When editing a passage in Text-to-Speech within a Multi-Cast™ project, character voices now more closely match the performance produced by Magic Mode itself.
Previously, certain character voices could sound different when a passage was edited independently through Text-to-Speech rather than generated through Magic Mode. We've refined this experience so those voices maintain the same character, performance quality, and vocal identity.
The result is a much more unified production from initial generation through final edit.
For Authors, Producers, and Publishers, this means fewer compromises when making changes to individual passages and a more cohesive finished audiobook.
Your edits now belong to the same performance.
Speak-It — Cleaner Recordings, Wherever You Work
Speak-It just got significantly better for real-world recording environments.
Our enhanced automated noise removal works to isolate your voice and remove surrounding background sound, helping produce clean, high-fidelity recordings even when your recording environment isn't perfectly controlled.
Whether you're recording in a professional studio, at home, in an office, on the road, or somewhere with a little more activity happening around you, Spoken works to clean the recording before your final narration result.
For Authors, Producers, and Publishers using Speak-It for narration fixes, or custom recordings, this means greater flexibility without requiring a perfectly controlled recording environment.
Less time fighting the room. More time getting the performance right.
PDF Support — Bring Your Manuscript Straight Into Spoken
Spoken has historically supported PDF uploads for screenplay workflows. With v2.2.1, full PDF ingestion is now available for narrative fiction single installment works.
For Authors, Producers, and Publishers working with established PDF-based workflows, this creates a much more direct path into Spoken Studio — and a step forward to opening the door to the enormous volume of manuscripts already living in PDF format and bringing them seamlessly into the same chapter-based production workflow.
Bugs, Fixes & Refinements
We've also made a broad range of improvements across Studio, including:
Improved speed, consistency, and playback across settings
Resolved Speak-It playback and recording deletion issues
Refined and upgraded default accents
Improved handling of clipping in short passages
Additional passage processing, playback, and workflow improvements throughout Studio
Keep Building
Every production eventually comes down to the details.
Some of the biggest improvements happen at the passage level, where small details can have an enormous impact on the finished production.
For Authors building their work, Producers shaping the final performance, and Publishers managing production at scale, Spoken Studio continues to put more precision directly into the hands of the people responsible for the finished audiobook.
Production without compromise.
